About

**Quick First-Person Version in what-ever-comes-to-mind-first order:**

  • I do motivational speaking and training on customer service, leadership, teams, diversity and communication.
  • I’m married, with three children, living in Hawaii on the island of Oahu
  • Like to surf (but don’t get to as much as I’d like)
  • Hurt my knee skateboarding two years ago
  • I have chickens and talapia in my backyard and like the word “permiculture
  • My wife, son(s), friends and I do crossfit (an excessively intense workout) and dabble (about 80%) with the paleo diet
  • I have been a pastor for 20 years and started a church in a night-club
  • I used to work in a surfshop (Straight-Up) and coached wrestling at a nearby high school
  • I still think I can dance and occasionally bust out my headspin/breakdancing routines at weddings

**More professional sounding third-person (even though I wrote it which is weird) version :) **

Ka’ala Souza is the owner of Ka’ala Souza Training and Consulting where his major goal is assisting others in achieving theirs. Born and raised in Hawaii, on the island of Oahu, with a background in marketing research and as the senior pastor of the church Hope Chapel Mana’olana, Ka’ala brings a unique perspective to his work.

Consultant and Speaker

Kaala has been making a living as a speaker, consultant and trainer since 1999 when he left his job as a marketing researcher and program evaluator at SMS Research in Honolulu. It was the proverbial
launch from the nest with wings frantically flapping. His wife and children had a tough time trying to explain his new job to their friends. According to Micah Souza, his youngest son, his dad “talks.” He does. A lot.

He speaks at companies, schools, conferences, seminars and at home (to his kids). He’s worked with many of the top 20 largest companies in Hawaii as well as not for profit groups, clubs and organizations throughout the state including Queens/Diagnostic Laboratory Services, HMSA, and the Kamehemeha Schools. His consulting and training includes leadership and management development, communication, teambuilding and customer service. He has a gift to connect with diverse audiences, make them laugh, think, get motivated and grow. Kaala is also very active in training with the City and County of Honolulu and Kauai where he’s working on contributing to an increase in the spirit of Aloha in the public sector.

Pastor

In 2002, Kaala launched a daughter church from the Hope Chapel family of churches. Prior to being senior pastor he spent 10 years as intermediate and high school youth pastor and worship director for Hope Chapel Kaneohe. He actually began his church in a Honolulu nightclub called Pipeline Cafe ( there was no room in the “inn”) and for a while had the best sound system and light show of any church ever (the night club’s light guy, “T”, used to work for Janet Jackson and the Rolling Stones). It was an unusual venue (still is) that illustrates a little more of the unique approach Kaala brings to the table.

In 2008, not satisfied with the model or outcomes of the traditional church, Kaala “re-organized” their gathering into a loose conglomeration of interdependent home groups that would meet on their own and take responsibility for their spiritual development. He writes a blog for people who want to get stronger spiritually at Soulfit.

He and his family enjoy all things outdoors including surfing, standup paddling, fishing and diving. He works out with his wife and friends in his garage gym doing (or at least trying to do) the ridiculously intense Crossfit.com workouts, jujitsu and kickboxing.
